Formentera island: beaches, restaurants & tan-lines

By Carmen Viudez

I can't remember how many times I've been to Formentera - the smallest oft the Balearic islands, but as a Spaniard, I love the beautiful Formentera beaches, the good restaurants, and the hours of sunshine on the island just next to Ibiza. After a few holidays in Ibiza with my girlfriends in the beach clubs, I now discovered the charm of Formentera for myself.. Ps: At the end of the article, you will find some additional insider tips in to the beaches, restaurants, and scooters.

The best beaches of Formentera

Levante

A secluded beach on Formentera, much quieter than Ses Illetes. A long, comprehensive, and beautiful beach, perfect for enjoying the sun for a longer time, as it's often a bit windy :-)). A highlight of this beach is my favorite restaurant on Formentera - the Chiringuito, El Tanga. It always feels like coming home - a bit like family. Just take a look, and you'll see what I mean...

Formentera Ses Illetes

It's the most famous beach where most people spend their holidays on Formentera. Unfortunately, it's often overcrowded with day-trippers taking the Ibiza-Formentera ferry. If you're in the area, it's still worth a visit.

Es Arenals

A beach with clear water. The color of the sea is beautiful. It used to be a cozier and less popular beach. Now it's more popular because of the Pacha Hotel. But it's always worth a visit - especially if you like Pacha.

Es Calo D'es Mort

You have to see this little "cove." The best place to eat and drink is the Chiringuito Bartolo... Reservations are not possible; just come early, put your name on the list, and he will call you when the food is ready.

Cala Saona: beach Restaurants

Probably the most Spanish beach in Formentera. The umbrellas in all colors give it an 80s flair. There are also two excellent beach restaurants where you can enjoy a tasty meal. I recommend the restaurant Sol for dinner and the Chiringuito Saona for drinks.

Formentera restaurants & chiringuitos:

Beso Beach Club

The place to be - but no longer spontaneous. Book well in advance. My secret tip: Saturdays are the best days because there is always a daytime party with a DJ. Also perfect for sunsets.

Formentera Juan y Andrea

An institution and probably one of the oldest Chiringuitos on the island. Unfortunately, it's a bit more expensive.

Es Codol Foradat: A favorite for lunch

Everything tastes good here, and there is a small beach, perfect for a siesta after lunch.

Vogamari

It's less fancy but very Spanish, and the food is delicious.

Can Carlitos

The best restaurant for dinner, right on the port of La Sabina: Beautiful restaurant with delicious food. It's best to book in advance.

Can Carlos Formentera: One of the oldest and best restaurants on the island.
Can na Pepa is great for breakfast and dinner.
Can na Joana is super sweet and delicious for dinner.

Formentera Scooters

The ideal way to get around Formentera is by scooter: you can go anywhere and park anywhere. You can reserve a scooter when you arrive on the ferry from Ibiza. They're also easy to book in high season, but only for those who know how to use them. You can also get around by car or bike for the more sporty.

Carmen's secret Formentera tips:

Take the scooter all the way south to Faro de la Mola.
La Mola: There is a hippie market on Wednesdays and Sundays - just like in Ibiza. This place also has super cute little shops and tapas bars...
Cap de Barbaria: Grab a rosé and some olives and go to Cap de Barbaria to watch the sunset. Simply amazing.
San Francisco: The most beautiful place - super cool for shopping and eating.

San Francisco, Formentera, Ibiza

I can also give you my contacts for where to stay on the island (Airbnb), and scooter rentals. Please contact me.
